Reassigning NFC/QR Codes – How It WorksIf an NFC or QR code is already linked to an asset in ToolSense, it cannot be reassigned to a new one directly. However, you can release the code using one of the two methods below:
1. Assign a new tag to the current assetWhen you assign a new NFC or QR code to the asset that currently has the old tag, the system will automatically remove the link to the previously assigned tag.
The old tag will then be available again.
You can now assign it to a different asset.
No manual unassignment is necessary — the new assignment overrides the previous one.
This method is recommended if the original asset should remain in ToolSense but use a new tag.
2. Delete the asset the tag is currently assigned toIf the asset that is currently linked to the NFC/QR code is no longer in use, you can simply delete it from ToolSense:
The associated tag will be automatically released.
You can now reassign the code to another asset.
Please note: Deleting an asset will permanently remove all associated data. Only use this option if the asset is truly no longer needed.
Important NotesThere is currently no manual "unassign" option in the UI.
Releasing a tag always requires either assigning a new one to the existing asset or deleting the asset entirely.
Tags (NFC/QR) can be reused as often as needed, as long as they are physically intact.
